Technique Workshops

Each workshop can be targeted at student levels from Beyond Beginners through to Advanced. In all cases the focus is on technique development and refinement. Each workshop can include either a choreographed study on the theme movement, or a student choreographic exercise.

The Versatile Figure 8

Learn how the Figure 8 can become a feature, rather than a filler in your dancing. This beautiful movement is incredibly versatile, lending itself to a huge range of combinations.

The Art of the Arabesque

The arabesque is a modern ballet movement added to belly dance in the early 20th century. It’s now been thoroughly converted and is an integral part of any modern repertoire. In this workshop we’ll work on balance and turns to improve basic technique, then go on to develop a range of arabesque styles.

Where can you go with the Egyptian Walk?

The Egyptian walk is a fundamental of nearly all styles of belly dance, but it can be difficult to master, and a real challenge to become an expert. Learn how to change the style of the Egyptian walk to suit folkloric and modern cabaret styles. At the end of the workshop you’ll feel like you know how to run with the Egyptian Walk.

Hip Drop Heaven

The hip drop is one of the most underrated steps in the belly dance repertoire. We learn it as beginners, and work on some improvement, but this workshop provides a chance to focus attention on taking the hip drop to where it can go. Excellent hip drops require strength, control and focus. Your hip drops can take the audience to heaven.

Sizzling Shimmies

There are an amazing variety of ways you can shimmy. Learn to take it where it needs to go, and how to focus it in different parts of the body. We’ll cover hip shimmies, shoulder shimmies, and a huge variety of combinations.
